OTTAWA, September 21, 2020 – Giant Tiger announced that 59 years after founding Giant Tiger, Gordon Reid is stepping down as CEO and Chairman. Mr. Reid will continue to serve on the Board of Directors and will hold the newly created role of Founder and Chairman Emeritus. As part of this change, Paul Wood, formerly President and COO of Giant Tiger, has been appointed to the role of President and CEO, effective immediately.
“It’s the right time for me to step down,” said Gordon Reid, Founder and Chairman Emeritus, Giant Tiger. “This change is all part of the natural evolution of leadership at Giant Tiger that sets the company up for success for the decades to come. We’re fortunate to have a strong leader in Paul who has a solid understanding of the business and our growth plans.”
Paul Wood has been with Giant Tiger for 17 years and recently guided the company through a successful acquisition of 36 stores from the North West Company, the development of a state of the art distribution centre in Johnstown, Ontario and the construction of a new home office facility in Ottawa. He also continues to lead Giant Tiger’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic.

Gordon Reid will also vacate the chairmanship of Giant Tiger’s Board of Directors. His eldest son, Scott Reid, formally Vice-Chair of the Board, will assume this position. Scott Reid, a Member of Parliament, sought and obtained clearance from the House of Commons’ Ethics Commissioner in advance for this change.
The ownership structure of Giant Tiger will not change. Mr. Reid and his family are committed to keeping Giant Tiger a privately held, Canadian-owned company.
