Giant Tiger Signs BlackNorth Initiative CEO Pledge to Help End Anti-Black Systemic Racism

OTTAWA, July 20, 2020 – Giant Tiger has signed the BlackNorth Initiative CEO pledge, committing to concrete targets and actions in an effort to end anti-Black systemic racism and create opportunities for those in underrepresented Black, Indigenous, and people of colour (BIPOC) communities. The CEO pledge includes the goal of having, at a minimum, 3.5 per cent of executive and board roles being held by Black leaders by 2025.

“Diversity, equality and inclusion is an incredibly important component of who we are as Team Tiger and we believe that all forms of racism and discrimination are unacceptable in our company and in society at-large,” said Paul Wood, President and Chief Operating Officer, Giant Tiger Stores Limited. “The last few months have given us time to pause, listen and reflect. We believe we need to do more to help end anti-Black systemic racism and also create opportunities for all underrepresented groups across the country. Signing the BlackNorth Initiative CEO pledge is a positive first step in the process.”

Giant Tiger is currently undertaking an internal review process to assess and formalize the company’s diversity, equality and inclusion efforts to ensure they are representative of goals in this area.
